Wrapping your hands for Muay Thai is crucial to protect your hands when training and competing. Even if you're just training for fitness, it's still very important so you don't get injured.
Once you've learnt a method that you like for wrapping your hands, it eventually becomes second nature and you don't even have to think about doing it.
Here are the different hand wrap techniques and how to wrap your hands for combat sports:
Picking the right hand wraps
First of all, you need to get the right hand wraps for your hand size. Most people go for 4.5 metres as it gives you enough material to play with and ensures you hand adequate protection.
If you do have smaller hands, you may prefer to go for a wrap that's a bit shorter.

The different ways to wrap your hands
There are so many different ways to wrap your hands. Some can be quite complex and some are just really easy. I remember training in Thailand and watching the Kru's wrap my hands in no time.
Every gym I visited (must visit Muay Thai camps in Thailand 2023) had a different way of wrapping my hands.
We've got together some of our favourite wrap styles and tutorials below to help you with wrapping your hands.
How to wrap your hands
Step 1: Start with the Thumb LoopThe first step in wrapping your hands is to make a loop for your thumb. Hold the hand wrap with the loop on the top and place it on your palm with the loop near the base of your thumb. Then, wrap the hand wrap around your wrist twice and ensure it is snug but not too tight.
Step 2: Wrap Your KnucklesThe next step is to wrap your knuckles. Begin at the base of your pinky finger and wrap the hand wrap over your knuckles diagonally towards your thumb. Repeat this process three to four times to ensure proper protection for your knuckles.
Step 3: Wrap Your WristAfter wrapping your knuckles, it's time to wrap your wrist. Start by wrapping the hand wrap around your wrist twice and then continue to wrap it around your hand, covering the knuckles and palm area. Make sure to keep the wrap snug but not too tight.
Step 5: Finish with the VelcroOnce you have wrapped your hand and wrist, you'll need to secure the hand wrap in place with the Velcro closure. The Velcro should be positioned on the inside of your wrist, so it doesn't interfere with your punches.
Step 6: Repeat for the Other HandAfter completing the first hand, repeat the same process for the other hand. Make sure to take your time and wrap each hand properly to ensure adequate protection.

This a great looking wrap in a Thai style from Kru Marn at dragon Muay Thai. It sits nice and tight around the hands so there's no chance of it coming loose. He shows how to do the wrap really well with the help of the vlogger Brad Newton. Thanks for posting this Brad! It's a wrap that I use all the time now.
