Muay Thai shorts are one of the most prized possessions of any Muay Thai practitioner. As a bigger guy who started training Muay Thai, I know the struggle of finding the right pair of Muay Thai shorts that actually fit, looked good and felt comfortable to train in.
Luckily, Muay Thai shorts come in many different shapes, sized and designs. A lot of Muay Thai shorts follow a new trend and tend to be much smaller.
Here are the best Muay Thai shorts for bigger guys:

GYM NASTY Muay Thai NAK SUU Flame Shorts
The GYM NASTY Muay Thai NAK SUU Flame Shorts were made with the big guy in mind. When I first started training Muay Thai, I encountered the problem that you're probably experiencing now. That's why you landed on this blog, right?
Well, when I first started training Muay Thai I was around 336lbs, quite a wide set guy so I struggled to find Muay Thai shorts that were comfortable for training and that looked good.
We went with a thick waistband to stop them rolling over, a wide inside leg so that practitioners with big thighs could fire up those head kicks and a great design.
Our Muay Thai shorts are a bit longer than some of the newer styles that you see these days to also compensate for taller fighters. They're a great all-rounder for all shapes and sizes.
We do also offer a 30-day return policy, so if you try them on and figure they're not for you, just send them back with the tags intact and we'll refund you.

Lumpinee Retro Muay Thai Shorts
These are classics and are perfect for bigger guys that train Muay Thai. If you've had the opportunity to travel to Thailand, there's no doubt that if you've walked down Khaosan road, you'd of seen these shorts hung up in shops and at street vendors.
They come in lots of different colors and varying styles but make use of the new design of Muay Thai shorts. They tend to be a bit shorter in overall length but are wider on the leg for a comfortable fit if you have bigger thighs.

Yokkao Muay Thai Shorts
If you've been involved in Muay Thai for any amount of time, it's highly likely you'd of heard of the Yokkao brand. Sported by some of the greatest Muay Thai fighters of the last 10-20 years such as Rodtang, Saenchai, Liam Harrison to name a few.
Yokkao make some great Muay Thai gear, where they excel is with their designs. They take the traditional Thai styling of Muay Thai shorts and put their own creative spin on things with their collections, matching gloves to their shorts and shin guards.
So why are Yokkao shorts great for bigger guys? Like ours, their sizes go up to 2XL, accommodating for even the biggest of practitioners. Much like the Lumpinee Retro Shorts, they take on the newer Thai styling with them being shorter but are quite wide in the waistband and body.

Fairtex Muay Thai Shorts
Fairtex are a great brand for bigger guys looking for shorts. Their collections do tend to run bigger than most of the other Thai brands in the market. Bigger waist, longer fits and a wider leg.
They're one of the most cemented brands in the world of Thai boxing, with many high-level fighters being sponsors, Fairtex are one of the leaders for most combat gear, especially the art of 8-limbs.
Check out their sizing guides for certain collections as some of them do run quite slim to accommodate for the smaller fighters.

Fluory Muay Thai Shorts
FLUORY Muay Thai Shorts are a great addition to any NAK MUAY's wardrobe. They take on a similar style, shape and design to the Lumpinee Retro Thai shorts.
There are a lot of classic styles that Muay Thai fans will recognise and no doubt love. There are also some very questionable styles in my opinion, but we all have our own preferences.
Fluory shorts are very high quality and breathable like all the others mentioned in this blog for maximum functionality.
Just be sure to check their size guide as some of them do have a bit of a thinner leg width so you may find that they cut off your range of movement if you have bigger legs.
Muay Thai Shorts Size Guide
Muay Thai shorts do tend to be a lot smaller so we do recommend going a size or two up but always check out the size guide for the brand that you're looking for.
More brands have now entered the market due to the growth of the sport which has naturally brought more options to choose from. With different styles, designs, brands so it's not as hard as it once was to find the perfect Muay Thai shorts for you, no matter what size you are.
The most common problem when buying Muay Thai shorts is just finding the perfect size for you. Whilst you may find a pair that fits your waist perfectly, they may be too long on the leg and vice versa.
How to find the best fitting Muay Thai shorts:
-
Get a size that fits your waist: As long as your Muay Thai shorts fit your waist, you can easily adjust them to fit your perfectly. When they fit your waist comfortably, you can always roll or pull them up if you prefer the shorter style. It's a common expression within Muay Thai for fighters to pull up their shorts when competing. The only thing to watch out for here is the width of the leg, as you pull them up, your high will naturally be thicker towards the top so you don't want your shorts to be too tight so you can't throw high kicks.
-
Finding the right width: Muay Thai shorts tend to be wide as a style, but there are some shorts out there that are a little bit smaller so if you pick the wrong pair, they're going to be tight on your legs. You can generally tell if a pair of Thai shorts is a wider fit just by the pictures and how they look.
- Length of Thai Shorts: Again, the length can be easily solved by rolling them up, but if you're finding yourself rolling them up too much then it might be time to shop with a different brand. Check out the pictures on a brand's website and see how long they are. Another good idea here is to check if they have any picture reviews on their website or head over to their Instagram to see if there are any fighters wearing them. There's a chance that the fighter might be a similar size or height to you.
If you're a bigger guy, it can be quite frustrating trying to find the right Muay Thai shorts to fit. Our guide should help you find the perfect design and fit. When you buy new shorts, try them on but keep the tags on.
The most important thing to assess is if you have full range of movement. Are you able to throw high kicks comfortably, block kicks and stretch? If so then they're the right shorts for you.
High quality shorts like our flame Muay Thai shorts will be made out of satin, we'd highly recommend going for satin shorts over any other variant in the market. They're going to last a hell of a lot longer, will be more of a comfortable fit.
